1963 Dodge Ramcharger

1963 Dodge Ramcharger

The 1963 Dodge Ramcharger.
The Ramcharger (not to be confused with the large sport utility vehicle) came equipped with a 413 V8 bored out to 426 cubic inches.
Dodge rated the engine at 425 horsepower, but as with a lot of figures from back then, a lot of people think the horsepower ran much higher.
Aluminum front fenders, hood and front bumpers helped to lower the weight of the car, bringing it in at around 3,200 pounds.
On the strip this translated into a 12 second quarter mile at 117 mph.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T

The Challenger name has been carried by three different Dodge models since it was introduced in 1970.
While the new Challenger model has created a lot of interest, this entry is about the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T.
Both the Challenger and it's sister ship the Plymouth Barracuda were created to compete against cars like the Mercury Cougar and Pontiac Firebird.
The Challenger had a longer wheelbase, larger dimensions and more luxurious interior than the Cuda, and was of course aimed at young American buyers.

The top of the line Challenger was the R/T powered by the 426 Hemi V8.
The Hemi cost an extra $1,228, but it gave the Challenger 425 horsepower and 490 pounds of torque.
That allowed the Challenger to cover the quarter mile in a little over 13 seconds at 107.12 mph.

A 1970 Challenger was driven by Jake Kowalski in the original "Vanishing Point" movie.

1970 Hemi-Powered "Sick Fish" 'Cuda

Quite a while back I did a write up on the Fear Factor 1970 Hemi-Powered 'Cuda.
That continues to be one of the most popular posts here so I thought I would revisit it.
The 1970 Hemi-Powered "Sick Fish" 'Cuda was built by Rad Rides (Troy Trepanier) for former Fear factor host Joe Rogan.
They picked up an old used one for $13,000.00  and started the rebuild.

Of course Rad Rides totally reworked the whole car, but you know what I pay the most attention to....
Yes the engine.
And what an engine it is.
It's powered by a 650 horsepower, fuel injected,528 cubic inch Mopar Performance crate Hemi.
Enough to make any Mopar fan proud.

The Dodge Viper, Part 5

Viper Competition Coupe
As of 2003, a special, non-street legal Viper SRT-10 Competition Coupe is available from Dodge for race car drivers, picking up where the GTS-R racing variant left off. The power and torque ratings have been improved, but the vehicle has been stripped of anything not essential for racing, such as the interior body panels, instrumentation, air conditioning, and stereo system which lightened the car by 380 lb (170 kg). The "CompCoupe" comes equipped with a full roll cage, a racing fuel cell, and other racing-related equipment. It is not sold through dealers and is purchased from Dodge directly as, essentially, a very expensive race car component. Pricing is approximately US$139,000. The Viper Competition Coupe sees action in the highly competitive SCCA Speed GT World Challenge.

In 2004 Samuel Hubinette used a Competition Coupe with a modified rear axle for the Formula D, in which he won the title before the car was barred by the end of the season (due to the fact FD would adopt D1 Grand Prix regulations from the following year which had already prohibited the car from competing) and was replaced by an SRT-10 the following season.

After a few one-off entries in the Spa 24 Hours, from 2006, the Viper Competition Coupe will race in Europe fulltime for the first time, joining the new FIA GT3 Cup with the Italian team Racing Box.
